About Grace

Folks often tell us what a friendly and warm place Grace Lutheran is, and we do our best to welcome everyone to the Grace family.  We have activities for all ages, but most importantly, we are centered around following Jesus in our everyday lives.

Being Lutherans, the core of our beliefs is the grace of God -- how God reaches out to us to help us know we're loved.  We see God reaching out to us through Jesus, the Bible, the people around us, in nature, and just about any other way that we'll listen.  We believe that God loves us dearly and wants us back, no matter what we do.  We don't believe that we're perfect or that we have all the answers.  What we do know is that God loves this whole world, and we're doing our best as a community to share that love.

Grace Staff:

The Rev. Chelsea Spencer was born and raised in Ashtabula, Ohio and graduated from Edgewood Senior High School. After high school, she attended Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA and graduated in 2006 with a BA in Political Science as well as minoring in history and legal studies.

During the year between college and seminary, Pastor Spencer worked as an income maintenance worker for The Department of Job and Family Services in Lake County, Ohio. This experience continues to give her insight into the struggles and realities of socioeconomic, cultural, and class struggles that are often ignored or judged in our society.

Pastor Spencer earned her Master of Divinity from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio in 2011. She was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on August 6, 2011 and served Martin Luther Lutheran Church (Bucyrus, OH) and Nevada Lutheran Church (Nevada, OH) from 2011- 2014. She has served New Life Lutheran Church in Liberty, Ohio since 2015 and looks forward to the new ministry opportunity and relationship as she begins her pastorate at Grace Lutheran Church in Hubbard,

Pastor Spencer has served on the Northeastern Ohio Synod Council for six years, NEOS Executive Council for one year, and currently serves on the Congregational Resource Team for NEOS.

Pastor Spencer has one daughter, Meya whom she adopted in August of 2023. She adores Meya and makes spending time and continuing to watch and help her grow a priority above all else. She is also a foster parent for Trumbull County.

Ellen Hall is our church secretary.  She spends a lot of time on bulletins, newsletters, mailings, and many other duties in the office.  If you call on a weekday morning, she'll probably be the friendly voice that you hear.

Beth Mauch serves as our director of music and organist.  She directs our choir, plans worship, and helps many folks get involved in praising God with music

Many other folks invest countless hours and resources into making this community what it is.  We're grateful for the dedicated volunteers who share Christ's love in so many ways!
